Vinous Antonio Galloni - 27 Oct 22
The 2018 Barbaresco Ovello is a powerful, searing wine. Then again, this is Ovello. It shows a bit more depth than the other wines, while very much retaining the nervy personality of this site. Red-fleshed fruit, orange peel, spice and mint lend tons of nuance to this exotic, layered Barbaresco. The 2018 was aged in a new Stockinger cask. There is a hint of new oak sweetness, but it actually works quite well in the wine's fabric.

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
